Transition Training
Transition training through the Transition Academy will prepare all educators to assist students in planning for post-secondary success. Topics will include transition assessment, best practices in planning for transition, and the essentials of self-determination. This academy is for both general and special education educators, transition/work experience coordinators, and administrators. Anyone working with student transition will find this academy beneficial.
Two full-day training sessions will be held at the Heart of Missouri RPDC. An additional day will be scheduled in the district for follow up coaching and support.
Paraprofessional Training
Paraprofessionals are required to have 15 hours of training their 1st year of service and 10 hours of training annually each subsequent year. Workshops will have topics that are specifically relevant to paraprofessionals and can be tailored to meet the needs of your district.
Topics can include, but are not limited to:
- An overview of the laws and regulations that direct special education in the district
- General terms and acronyms
- Disability categories and general characteristics
- Professional/Ethical behavior including confidentiality
- Expected duties
- Student supervision and classroom management
- Basics of instruction and learning
- Behavior modification and charting
Open forum sessions provide an opportunity for paraprofessionals to ask their own questions. Make and take projects can be added as requested.
